Hello B&P Family!
Today’s post is dedicated to Glen and Linda — a lovely Christian couple who reached out to Bible & Penn Productions for guidance regarding a Biblically-inspired musical production they are working on. We had a lovely in-depth conversation about where they currently are in their production process and the next steps to move their show forward. When I came across this video of my mentor — Tony Award-Winning playwright David H. Hwang — speaking on the play development process I just had to share it not only with them but with you, too! In addition to discussing key turning points in moving a play from the page to the stage, he also shares the inspirational journey of how he first entered playwriting and moved from writing “bad plays” to writing award-winning scripts. Hah! In this video, you’ll even catch a glimpse of me in his classroom as a Columbia University second-year MFA Playwriting student. Without further ado, I present to you the wise words of David H. Hwang:
I hope you find David’s message as helpful in video form as it was for me when I was his playwriting student. So much encouragement and wisdom! Playwriting is challenging. It is a long process. It is a grueling process. BUT! It is a rewarding process. Christian playwrights, the world needs the stories God has placed in your heart to tell, and I am here to help you. Feel free to reach out to me via my website contact form. I would love to hear from you. Also, be sure to subscribe to BibleAndPenn.com to stay updated on playwriting classes being offered in the future.
